My name is Brad Burgess, I am the co-founder of Proper PPF, we are hosting a charity event on June 17th, 2023, in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation (ACHF) and more specifically in support of the new ACHF Child and Youth Mental Health Centre (The Summit) and their Emerging Adults Program.
In Alberta, approximately 114,000 youth and young adults experience mental health concerns each year. Sadly, an estimated 4,820 will attempt suicide, the second leading cause of death for 16-24 year old’s in Canada. In Calgary, there is just one AHS service specifically intended to help those with moderate to severe illness, the Emerging Adult Treatment Clinic (EATC) at the Richmond Road Diagnostic Centre. The EATC’s current size, location and space constraints limit the ability to meet demands. It has a current wait time of 12 months. This new mental health centre will allow Calgary to become a leader in addressing serious knowledge and service gaps that exist across North America and Europe. Together, AHS and UCalgary are determined to achieve meaningful advancements – to build clinical capacity and expertise across the care spectrum, contribute to crucial mental health research with and for emerging adults and shorten the time it takes to turn innovative ideas into positive impacts on health outcomes.
The way we have chosen to support this cause is a Performance Driving Track Day event at the new Rocky Mountain Motorsports Facility just north of Calgary. The inspiration for this event was derived from my personal struggles with mental health and I personally found relief in the form of a hobby. That hobby is performance driving. In our line of work, we have met some amazing people with the same passion for cars and we hope to bring this community together and support an amazing cause while putting on a great event. All proceeds from the event will go to ACHF to help our community combat mental health struggles.
